Description:
I have been carving for about 5 years, which is when I acquired my first gouges (though had attended a couple of weekend courses earlier). This piece was inspired by an exhibition of Celtic Art at the British Museum some years ago, and taken from a photo of a sword scabbard on show, decorated in the La Tene style. It was adapted for wood as the original was in bronze and enamel and not literally carvable. The intention was to preserve the 'spirit' of the original.
