Description:
I love walking the Atlantic beaches in the winter months. Always dramatic seascapes and interesting shells and driftwood washes up from the more violent winter ocean swells. This conch shell carving was from an old shell that I found after a pretty bad storm. I’m not sure how old the shell but obviously had been through a number of life cycles and now somehow revealing both that and the inner beauty and flawless geometry of its golden proportions. I have done many drawing and paintings of these types of shells. Now inspired by Chris I decided to carve one of the shells. I chose I piece of maple from a tree that had to be taken down on my property. The maple was quite hard so had to watch Chris’s videos on sharpening a number of times!
This project was done by a carver with less than 12 months experience.
