Description:
I have been carving for approximately two years on and off but I retired in December and have joined Chris's classes to hopefully progress with my carving.for my Gandalf which is hanging in my back garden ,I used a split sycamore log I had acquired. I took my sizes from two photos front and side views of Ian Mckellen from the film and scaled them on to the wood which was secured on a carvers vice.Once i had my centre lines and features marked I worked visually from the photos to create my interpretation of Gandalf my chisels are a mixture of Axminster and flexcut
