Description:
My first carving venture beyond whittling. This lump of firewood grinned at me from my log barn, so I took it on holiday (when I had peace) with a few little gouges and accentuated the whimsy visage I fancied I perceived in its raw knotty state. I had harvested the wood from a big hedge I cut down for an old neighbour. It surrounded an ancient cherry orchard, from which I'd chainsawed dead trees and been charmed by the beauty of their grain as I split them for logs. Thus began my carving.
