We love showcasing our members carvings; after all, getting people to carve is what Woodcarving Workshops is all about! In the gallery you’ll see a wide range of carvings, from novice to advanced; each one the result of time and effort, inspiration and dedication. We value them all!

Type of Wood: Basswood
Finish: Tung Oil
Dimensions: 16 x 14 in
Description:
This is a picture frame I made as a memento of a recent hiking and camping trip with my son. The text is a line from the poem "The Riddle of Strider" that appears in the Lord of the Rings books, which has become somewhat of a motto for hikers everywhere. The font is uncial from Chris's lettercarving book, which I thought was somehow appropriate for a Lord of the Rings line. I added the maple leaves since our trip took place during the peak of fall colors. There is some patchiness in the finish which makes me wish I had used wax rather than oil, a learning I will remember for future projects.
