Description:
Being a firefighter in my hometown, located in Indiana (United States) I experienced long periods of downtime. One Sunday morning, watching television, I tuned into the local PBS channel where I wanted Rick Bütz to demonstrate carving a small figure. That show was 30 years ago, and now woodcarving is more than a pastime hobby as it has become a passion for exploring and learning different techniques. I have carved a few relief projects in the past, and this squirrel carving project caught my eye. The project took me a few months to complete as my actual bench time is limited as I am a full-time Information Technology manager. Chris carved his project in Oak, and I’ve attempted carving Oak before and found it challenging. So, I selected Butternut for this project and am pleased with the look of the grain pattern.
