Description:
Well, I've been trying to learn for a while now. This is the first carving that I feel reasonably pleased with. I'm still struggling to get the background flat in and around the letters with small tools and still struggling even with a 5mm flat gouge to get in between the letter spacing here. Side note, if anyone knows where I can get 3mm backbend flat gouges, please let me know, I have scoured the internet) But it's good to overcome my issue which is getting the background level and flat. It could still be flatter, but this looks pretty good. Setting in at a 10 degree angle is hard, especially where curves meet straights, I can't seem to get a nice clean connection. Anyway its going up in their garden above his favourite scratching area.
This project was done by a carver with less than 12 months experience.
