The 'sampler' or sample board is a place to record all the different cuts that we are learning. A reminder for the future.

Bill - What an interesting question!
To be honest, I've never had that problem. I think I absorb a sense of where the line goes before I cut it. Sort of seeing through the shaving.
Does that make sense? It's early days for you as a carver; I think that issue will disappear as you progress and carve more and more lines.

Hi Chris, I am moving along the sampler well and enjoying it. As I move along cutting the border, the corkscrew of wood blocks my view of the pencil line guide at times. Is there a tip for dealing with that?

Vivienne - I'm using Limewood (thought the cutting like butter has a lot to do with sharp tools!). There are suggestions for other good carving woods in the download that accompanies the Beginner's series.

Hullo Chris,
Please tell me the kind of wood you are using.
Mine certainly doesn't cut like butter, as your piece does.
