5-4 Setting in

Our subject is now standing proud of the background but its edges have been deliberately left rough to avoid damage to the design.

There are two approaches to 'setting in' a way of describing the fixing - establishing the true outlines of a carving - to learn here.

But this setting in is not just something to tidy up relief carvings. Wherever there are edges, they'll need to be set in. So don't forget that these techniques, like everything we are doing in this beginner's course, are transferable skills.

Vivienne - The circle is the same size as I have for the flower exercise. There's a drawing page 26 of the download. 3.5inches, 83mm.
