We're down to essential carving skills here: following the form as we move from bigger to more refined facets, then on to spokeshaves and scrapers. Feel with your hands for the final, smooth, fluidly undulating surface.
I don't mention 'cabinet scrapers', the wide, flexible sort used by cabinet makers, but they are quite suitable for this sort of broad surface. I don't use then myself but if you have them and feel comfortablre, give them a whirl!
