One thing this carving doesn't have is colour. So we have a little problem with the black nostrils and irises of our hare. The best we can do is suggest these features through the use of shadows. Essentially, we are 'stylising', adapting the real thing to, and in, our medium.
In this lesson I'm giving the snout its final shape and bringing out the sense of nostrils with deep cut, pretty much creating a 'Y' shape with a deep vertical fissure and two sharp planes.
