Furniture makers usually make their dovetails fit at right angles into a joint. It takes a carver to fit one snug up against a cylinder!

I cut the dovetails by eye, about 20-30 degrees.There is no need to be accurate, or even symemetrical, but do make sure the sides of the dovetail are square to match the square socket into which we will fit them.
