I generally like to keep my carving progressing as a whole; every part is related to, and ultimately depends on, every other. This is a big woodcarving and we need to make a series of passes around it, moving the whole along. Keep referring to your model. Eventually, you'll stop looking at the model and find yourself focussed on the carving. However, in the early stages,our model is really helpful for establishing what goes where...

Eric - It's is made of nylon and was originally twice the diameter and sold as a stonecarver's mallet. I turned it down to a respectable weight and size. (You'll see it in Tools > Bench Tools > Mallet 1) I've collected all sorts of mallets over the years - I only have ones I like to use - and just picked it up on the day ...

Chris, I am always interested in your tools. What is that mallet you are using? Does it have a plastic head? Why do you use it rather than some of your other wooden head mallets. Thanks.
