2 Marking Out

The secret of a good twist, whether 'rope' or 'barley' is in the setting out.

In this lesson I'll go through the essential method for getting a good looking turn of spiral (or helix) around the cylinder. Once you have grasped how it works, you can readily apply it elsewhere. Be as accurate as you can!

Thank you for an excellent demonstration of how to set out the twists! It all makes sense and showing how the flat surface relates to the cylindrical surface means that I will do some experimenting on sheets of paper, make them into tubes and get a feel for what pitch I want and thickness of the rope strands.
