A 'frieze' is a horizontal band of decoration. It's usually thought to be more elaborate than we have here, more architectural, but this is definitely a frieze.
You can make our frieze as long as you like! Carvers try o be efficient when doing repeat work like this, using the same tool for as long as possible. That's a good rule to follow in any carving.
