That is exactly what was going on. I was much shallower than 20 degrees. Once I raised the cutting angle to approx. 20 degrees, it sharpens beautifully. Thanks!

Zachary - Hard to say without seeing the tool but my guess would be that you have too shallow a cutting angle on the bevels and thus the edges are weak. Try a steeper angle? You could get a cardboard template with 20 degrees and see how you compare with that.

Hi Chris, I have been working on a V-tool, and have been having an issue where the side bevels become jagged, instead of having a smooth cutting edge. I have sharpened many gouges successfully, and this is the first time I have tried a v-tool. I'm not really sure what is going on.
